GRAMMYS PARADE

Ok, during my net-surfing today I found this HILARIOUS piece on the history of the Grammys. I copy here the unforgettable ones (from people.com):
Milli Vanilli's Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan won the best new artist Grammy for their mulitplatinum debut, All or Nothing, and "performed" their hit "Girl You Know It's True" at the 1990 ceremony – only to be exposed eight months later for lip-syncing everything! And that Grammy? Withdrawn. - Now, already the name is ridicolous, then their looks, come on they should have withdrawn the award only for that!

Apparently in 1989 instead of much-wanted Metallica the hard rock/metal category was won by flute prog-rockers Jethro Tull, that was booed from the audience during his acceptance speech. Look at him. I'm not surpirsed.

I know, it must have been difficult to decide what to wear (and what color dye your hair!) in 1984...and Cindy Lauper did her best.....shame she's about to sneeze all over Hulk Hogan (but why was he carrying her??)

But Sly wasn't it the nickname of Silvester Stallone? I know nothing about music!! Sly and the Family Stone...very nice costume....
xxJuls

HERO OF THE DAY

Today Lou is not here so I chose the hero myself: Kate Bosworth were so cool with this pink dress: right shape, right color, right fabric I love it! you have to have a petit frame to wear it though, so I reckon I won't be browsing the net in the desperate search of it! Shoes are bit too polite for the look, I would have gone for something black and chunkier. Lou wherever you are send us a comment!!!! Julsxx

InStyle Best of Young British Talent party

So yesterday night, as you already know, we went to the InStyle Best of young Talent party.... it was nice: champagne and coloured cocktails, mini burgers and mini fish&chips, nice crowd (even though I saw very few talents.....) and very very cool music! Marina and the Diamonds (first time I heard of them, sorry I don't have any music knowledge whatsoever!) were fantastic they made us dance and have a very good time. Obviously there were some fashion tragedies, which I promptly captured with my phone: the goldies and the bluettes:

They don’t really need much comment, right?
But it wasn’t all bad after all, look also the trendy girls we’ve spotted:

HERO OF THE DAY

Lou: I love this look from A to Z, from head to toe... The color is really sophisticated, the dress pretty, the boots very cool, the hair-do a bit vintagy with some smokey blue eyes, I rate this look 7/10. Emily Blunt rocks in this outfit, she is elagant and cool thanks to those ankle boots.
Juls: well, yes she's pretty but..... (someone said this to me once... anyway... ) this outfit could have been done better: tighter sleeves, straighter bow, thicker tights, cleaner boots........ I like the hair&make-up though. At least she dared something different. And I like all groomed up, very sophisticated. xx

PIZZA EAST

I gotta feeling...... that tonight's gonna be a PIZZA night! Yuhu! after 48 hours of fruits I will loooove my pizza tonight at this amazing trendy new pizzeria in Shoreditch (obviously!)... Party of 4 after the InStyle Baftas British Talent party... right Lou?? xxJuls
Cause tonight gonna be a good good night!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tonight it's pizza time after a light lunch (Dailysford sausage sandwich...) Does that ring a bell?

Pilates!

This morning I received a call from my Pilates studio saying that the class of tonight has been cancelled! I am so upset! i have joined this Studio a while ago and I strongly recommend it. it's called Beautcamp Pilates, they have a studio in West London and one in East London (guess which one I go to...;-) the teachers are great, you really sweat all your calories out and at the end you feel good and toned! It's pretty hard at the beginning, as you have your own reformer and you must keep up with the rhythm of the class, but once you get used....great job for the abs! xxJuls

SAG Awards - Fashion Police

Juls: WOW it is always tough to choose the lucky 3 that will be judged by the Fashion Police, as there are always so many terrible outfits! this time we have "old" lady Sigourney Weaver that isn't quite sure how to work the (dreadful!) asymmetric look so she's trying to compensate it bending on the other side. Then the totally unknown Chery Hines, who decided to come to public view with a freakin' scary dress: too shiny, too tight and too long. too bad!!! Finally Bonnie Sommerville (?) thought that her dress was too boring (true!) so she splashed it with silver paint. Bad idea. xx
Lou: I don't know what to say, I think that Juls has entirely summed up the situation. Oh, just one thing, "Ladies (the 3 up there), next time if you don't know what to do on a Saturday night... just stay home, sometimes it's better".

SAG Awards - The Heros

Juls: we love floaty - that you can see - therefore easy choices at the SAG awards....Christina Appelgate stunned us choosing a beautiful dress, we would have never expected this from her, well done C! Vera Farmiga unfortunately completely missed hair&make-up but her dress from J.Mendel is to die for! I would get married in this piece! Love it, love it, love it! Usual words of appreciation for Diane Kruger that really looks like a million dollar in Jason W. but i guess it's easy to look good with that body. thanks..... xx
Lou: Quelle elegance! So delicate, so feminine and so precious. My favorite is Christina Applegate (1st picture), the dress is just perfect on her, she looks so powerful. I also like Vera's dress but please cut her face from the picture, it is disturbing. A special dedicace to Diane Kruger, the dress is gorgeous but the color is difficult to wear and to dare, but Diane did it. Congratulations!!!

Brunch

EastLondoners! I have been suggested to go to this apparently amazing place in Bethnal Green on Sunday for brunch: delicious food, live music and lots of cool people! how can I say no?? If anybody has been there already, let me know what I should get! xxJuls

COUP DE COEUR

Sorry Juls, I couldn't resist I love too much Olivia Palermo's outfit. I adore the military expensive look of her leather jacket, like the leggings but I would pick them in wool and not in leather, it’s too shiny for me. I envy the idea of a pale belt on top of the outfit because I wouldn’t have thought about it. What I like most is the comfortable and warm feeling it procures me but stylish still. Amazing job Olivia!

HERO OF THE DAY

Lou: Everyday look, simple, smart, seems easy to imitate but it isn't... no it isn't because it is not a simple black jacket with a pair of baggy trousers; NO it is THE simple black jacket with some beautifully cut trousers. This is the perfect example why I love designer clothes; not for the label but because of the CUT and on top of that, the quality of the fabric they use!
Juls: This look is totally me! I would love to be able to throw that together, but it would be impossible to find the perfect pieces....but thank you Stella for the inspiration...x

Coming To America

Prince Akeem and girlfriend arrived from Zamunda to attend the Louis Vuitton menswear fashion show in Paris. Kanye West and Amber Rose probably thought the theme of the party was "dress as a film of the Eighties". Nice job! Julsxx

The Good Wife

Now, I'm quite addicted to TV series, especially the ones filled with drama and pathos, but this one is really gooood! The Good Wife with Julianna Margulies (I love her since ER, when she was always heartbroken by the good old George) is smart, fast and captivating! I can't wait to have some me-time to watch it again.... ah there's also Chris North (BIG from SATC) but we don't like him here either......Julsxx

Wednesday 20 January 2010

HERO OF THE DAY

Lou: Keri Russell gave a fashion lesson yesterday night. In fact, black is the best, always and this cape-coat dress is fantastic. I have no idea where she found it but if anyone knows please comment the blog. A little reproach…her hair, it is a bit…..boring.
Juls: well, I like it, because, as you know, covering up is always good...even if I would have put some statement jewellery to make the neckline a bit more interesting! ah, nice shoes, but lose the ribbon! ciao!

THEATRE

LE CIRQUE DU SOLEIL : VAREKAI
Varekai… I remember asking myself before going in the Royal Albert Hall, what does it means? The answer is, in Romany language, “Wherever” and actually it is true. This spectacle brings you wherever you wish to go. I am not a big fan of circus… at all actually, but I loved it very much. The colours, the music, the atmosphere… on stage there is like a forest of Bamboo trees, which remind me one of my favourite film:” the flying daggers”. The acrobats are amazing, in particular the Russian swings and the angel at the beginning but also that guy who juggles with ping pong balls and later panama hats as if they were boomerangs. But what I retain is the power of these people….more than Sarkozy or Obama (at least in 2010)… they made me dream. Lou

NO COMMENT: AT THE GOLDEN GLOBES

THIS IS INEXPLICABLE...... TRY TO GUESS WHO DARED THESE.... The first one is a singer who probably found these huge plastic boobs on sale and wanted to show them off at the first occasion, exactly like we would do with a discounted jumper we found at Harvey Nichols.... The second one is an actress, apparently, who thought that shaving for the golden globes wasn't worth it. I'm speechless. Julsxx
I know this story is called NO COMMENT but please guys comment. We saw earlier this morning Mariah Carey and her decollete and we laughed and thought " Oh No, How come bla bla bla" but then we found actress Mo'Nique, winner of a golden globe this year, or should i say that we found her hair... Mother Nature has been pretty generous with some of us! No don't be jealous guys! Lou

FASHION POLICE: THE GOLDEN GLOBES

Juls: in this section we could have put 100 pictures, but these 3 sum up well the disasters of the night: Kate Hudson has some problem with semplicity.....a more constructed dress and high/bulky shoes were difficult to find and a more boring/old hair-do also not easy to do. Patricia Arquette, which is probably 120 years-old decided to wrap herself in the sarong she bought in Sharm-el-sheik, quite astonishing. But the golden globe goes to Mickey Plastic Face Rourke, ridicolous with leather lined jacket, chains and hat, but even more with the 19 y-o long legged blonde that was in his arms.... xx

Lou: Why white???? It is raining! Haven't you noticed Kate that someone is holding an umbrella above your head? Or is that because you so desperately want to get married again? Why horrible??? Because you have no taste or because you've been influenced ? Oh and Patricia, is it you or your sister who plays a medium? Because really you should have heard from Hollywood our fashion police siren ringing. And Mickey, apparently you are on your way to Mexico, so have a good time! Lou

HEROs OF THE DAY: THE 67th ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBES

Juls: honestly, I haven't been struck by anyone this year, but there definitely were some beautiful gowns: Drew Barrymore is doing good lately, nude with application seems to be her trend now and I approve it! Stunning Diane Kruger got my vote even wearing pink (which is not a favourite of mine) but that Christian Lacroix was close to perfection. then Toni Collette sparkled for femininity (at last!) with a very well cut Elie Saab. xx

Dearest Drew, lately you look so good, you found (or your stylist) your style; which makes you a winner every single time. This dress do match your skin color, your character... always accompanied with the right accessories or hair do. Which is not Diane's case. This Christian Lacroix gown is wearing you and not the opposite. That's a pity because for me in 2009 I don't remember a fashion faux pas from you... not one! Tony, you look lovely, nothing else to say! Lou

Vintage Fashion London

A friend of mine told me that this Sunday we all need to go to Primrose Hill to spend a day browsing and buying from the many stalls of the Vintage Fashion London Fair (http://www.vintagefashionlondon.co.uk/): apparently vintage clothing, hats, handbags, gloves, shoes, jewellery and textiles from 1800’s – 1980’s will be on show. I can't wait! Nearby there is also a nice pub where I'd love to have a late lunch, it's called The Queens and has a lovely little terrace overlooking the park. Julsxx

FRIDAY TIP

Everyone needs a bit of help on a Friday, the week is nearly over but not yet, it's cold outside plus the fact that for some reasons we are starving to death all day long and every single day.... poor us... So we decided today as a Friday treat to go and have lunch to The Chicago Rib Shack in Knightsbridge. SO GOODDDDDDDDDDDDD the tender baby ribs!!!!
oulalala one more for me please..... Lou

HERO OF THE DAY

The beautiful Olivia Wilde (from the series "House") was stunning yesterday in this Alberta Ferretti frock: I really love this dress, for the delicacy of the colours and the innovation of the fabric.......only problem......PYTHON accessories! They say that the right accessories pull an outfit together, well here they almost push it apart! Julsxx

With an Alberta Ferretti dress on, you can only look elegant and sophisticated. This look works so well, she is splendid. We would almost forgive the clutch and shoes in python...
Between you and me, how can you Olivia??? Lou

My cupcakes are better

Today, while we were waiting to pay our lunch at Harvey Nichols, we saw these cupcakes: attractive colours, nice packaging, so we decide to buy ourselves a treat. We read so much about them on the magazine, as they are "made" by ex-model Lorraine Pascale. You can imagine the disappointment, after the excitement, of discovering that they are really awful! I mean the Oreo biscuit-flavoured one was so buttery and sweet that i almost got instant diabetes and the chocolate one barely accettable. now, for £5 the pair, this is a real rip-off! Mine are so much better! Julsx

HERO OF THE DAY

But who is this handsome man??? Jon Kortajarena ???? a Model...ah ok I see. Well, nothing to declare just that Jon made my day and it is already a lot.
Thank you Jon! Lou

Juls: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh OMG io lo amo! which means I love him. who the hell is this Adonis? where does he come from? where does he lives? give me some information pleaseeeeee!
He's my hero. of the whole year. thanks.

My Favourite Dress

Last night we went to the presentation of the book "My Favourite Dress", a very nice book about designers and creative people who state what is their favourite dress. It was held at the Fashion&Textile Museum, which was a disappointing surprise: very poor&cheap I'd say and the cocktail was made of water and awful white wine. Guests of the night were Zhandra Rhodes and Suzy Menkes (!) but the whole thing was boring and not fashionable at all. An example of what we saw is in the pictures....starting from a look directly from 1992 to hair of every colour and shape (the last girl also decided to match her fantastic orange hair with orange plastic boots, orange necklace and orange ribbon.......you won't get lost darling....) xxJuls

How on earth these women can think they are fashionable???? I mean Fashion is elegance, creativity, a way to express ourselves but please what does it mean to dye your hair orange, or should I say to dye only the hem of your fringe orange, to wear the same day some hunter boots … orange, to buy a plasticky chunky necklace….orange, and borrow the outfit of Beetlejuice on top of it.
La mode is supposed to be a solution, to help us accepting ourselves, to look better than reality. In conclusion, this was the worst fashion event I went to, there wasn’t ONE single sophisticated and stylish woman to admire last night. What a pity for the launch of a book called “My Favorite Dress”. Lou

MAKE UP TIP

I have been using the Shu Uemura cleansing oil for 2 months now and I am becoming a convert. Initially I was afraid of adding oil to my skin as I thought it would create blackheads.I followed the instruction 3 pumps on dry skin with dry hands then adding water to turn milky. It removes my make up completely and leaves my skin clean and moisturized and toned. In fact, even after rinsing, I still feel like there is a layer on my face but it seems to be just fine. My skin is luminous. I recommend it to everyone. (I personally use the purple one: brightening cleansing oil). Lou

HERO OF THE DAY

Juls: Well, I don't like her in general, but a few days ago Lindsay Lohan stepped out in a total black look (my favourite!): faboulous wrapped floaty dress, suede boots and super stylish hat....Cherry on the cake the silver big bag....of course you know that the very next thing i'm going to do is trying to replicate this, right????
Lou: Lindsay Lohan chic … who thought we could use this adjective to qualify her one day???
Anything can happen in 2010 and Lindsay proved it! So make your wish come true!

CINEMA

My friday night was looking good when I booked the cinema to watch Sherlock Holmes, by Guy Ritchie.... my boyfriend and I were pretty excited as a few months ago they closed the streets around our place to shoot some scenes .... so during all the movie G. tried to locate our neighborhood, only to find out once home that Mr. Ritchie probably cut everything he might have shot there..... back to the film, I really loved the action and the 2 actors were very good, especially Robert Downey Jr (I LOVE him, except in Fur, brrrr creepy..). A little problem with the language though....I haven't really understood everything, I might need to watch it again (d'oh)! xxJuls

BALLET

Last night I went to the Royal Opera House to watch Les Patineurs / Tales of Beatrix Potter: it was my first time at the Opera House and I loved it: although I had quite the crappiest seat in the theatre, the atmosphere and the ballet were amazing! quite fun also! the dancers were unbelievable! I really suggest to spend an evening there, given that it's not necessarily expensive: if you're ok with seeing half of the stage, you might as well need only a tenner.. Julsxx

Friday 8 January 2010

WEEK END TIP: WEST LONDON

My favorite destination in West London on a Saturday is Portobello Market. I love the crowd, the stands, the shops, the bargains… the atmosphere there!
My routine is to go directly under the bridge, have a look at the vintage clothes and more specifically the furs!!! In December I have also discovered an Artist called Laura Jordan, she has a stand by Ladbroke Grove tube station and her drawings of the English society are amazing and very affordable. On my way back home, always on Portobello road, I pop in the Admiral Antiques gallery to have a look at paintings, then I pick up some cupcakes at Hummingbird bakery and go straight home to devour them!!! (The best ones are the Bling-Bling, definitely not the Red Velvet that they recommend) Lou xxx

WEEKEND TIP: EAST LONDON

This Sunday, spend your day around Brick Lane and have lunch at the Story Deli (3 Dray Walk, The Old Truman Brewery, London, E1 6QL): the pizza is a bit unusual and the place is awesome! after pizza, pop in the coolest music store in the area, just in front, it's called Rough Trade and you can get lost in this tunes-heaven! xJuls

HERO OF THE DAY

Lou: Lucky Keira, you always look sexy; in a mini Chanel dress or in a maxi warm sheepskin coat... Love is in the Hair?

Good old Keira: she's wearing the Burberry Prorsum sheepskin coat i've been longing for ages......obviously when I phoned the shop and I heard the price I decided to stick to my old shapeless man super big sheepskin coat....nice.....but lose the bag Keira we don't believe you're going food shopping! xJuls

CINEMA

Did you hear about the Morgans? The answer is: You don’t need to… Unfortunately the movie isn’t good but thank God, Hugh Grant is still really good looking. Lou

when you are at the movies and you're still thinking to your own problems there's something wrong.....the film is fun at times, hugh grant is really funny, but overall it's a bit boring. then if you watch it in a theatre where an old man makes strange noises with his nose&throat and another man blows his penis breathe to your faces.......well this doesn't help enjoying your time......ciao Juls

FASHION POLICE

Nicole Scherzinger at People's choice awards

Juls: Seriously? Tutankhamun called and wants his dress back.
Don't even get me started on hair and make-up
...

Lou: I can't believe she did it!!! No please... the dress obviously, the hair but the pink LIPSTICK! No I really can't believe it
.

HERO OF THE DAY

Our first "Hero of the day" is Kate Walsh. The red hair Grey's Anatomy actress was wearing a stunning Vintage dress and a pair of Casadei platform shoes.

Lou: Kate's legs are wonderful she was so right to go for a minidress and I love the long beeded sleeves, She is so chic!!!

Juls: I love her legs, thank you very much, and the pale colour of the dress. Plus she is not worried of covering up which is always the right thing to do. Go Kate!
